About the Patriots...
The St. Louis Patriots Baseball team was founded in 2006 by two dedicated coaches and fathers: Mike Petzold and Tom McKnight. Mike and Tom recognized that competitive, high school, varsity level sports opportunities are not readily available to all homeschool students. A lifelong love of baseball and a willingness to accept the challenge lead them to the founding of the Patriots.
That first year, the team played just two games. Today, the program has grown to include a full schedule consisting primarily of teams from St. Louis area Christian high schools and national tournaments with other homeschool teams. Additionally, the Patriots are expanding to include a JV team as well as a team for middle school aged boys.
2008 represented the first of what the Patriots hope will be many outstanding seasons. That season the Patriots were 13-3-1, and ended the year as Champions of the National Homeschool Baseball Tournament held in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. In the last two games of the tournament the Patriots outscored their opponents 18-1!

2008 Champion Patriots
“I’m extremely proud of our team,” said coach Tom McKnight. “Our players are young men of character and integrity. A testimony to this occurred following our Championship in 2008. After we received our trophies, one of the umpires came to me and said he had officiated high school and college baseball for many years. He said that our young men comprised a team with the highest quality of character he had ever seen with regard to their attitude, effort, and interaction with opponents. He called them: top notch.”
A popular adage goes “Baseball is life…the rest is just details”. The humor of this statement is not lost on the Patriots, but they and their coaches believe that personal growth as Christian men and brothers is just as important for the team as is baseball. In that spirit, the Patriots have adopted the following mission and team scripture:
As members of the St. Louis Patriots baseball team, it shall be our mission:
1) To grow as Christian men in Christ.
2) To grow in Christian brotherhood with each other and our community.
3) To develop and compete as Christian althletes for the Glory of God.

The Patriots, based in O’Fallon, MO, welcome all homeschooled young men with a love of baseball to attend tryouts for Varsity, JV, and Middle School teams usually held in the spring and fall. Like most all teams, the Patriots have to limit the number of roster players. However, unlike most teams, we welcome non-roster players to attend practices to share in the opportunity to learn, grow and develop as players and young, Christian men.
